8 to 10 May - Hobie 16 Nationals Thailand 2009

Friday morning many visitors from Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, the Phillipines and Hong Kong as well as a few Varunians registered for the top Hobie 16 event of the year. Unfortunately most of our Hobie Tiger sailors were abroad, so their championship will have to be sailed at a later date. The wind was a bit too tame for Hobie sailors and unfortunately that stayed so the other wo days. But Race Officer Jerry Rolin, assisted by our own Sukit and Visanu managed to get 10 of the 11 planned races sailed. Two on Friday, six on Saturday and 2 more on Sunday. Congratulations! The spirit of the sailors was high and our visitors will surely come back another time with hopefully a typical Hobie wind. After all, we cannot change nature and that is a good thing. We have to take it as it comes. Our National Champion is again Damrongsak Vongtim with his crew Kitsada, but this time he had some tough competition from Rod Waterhouse and Mick Butler from Australia, with Indonesia and Hong Kong in close pursuit.
